Africa-Press – Tanzania. ENTREPRENEURS and industrial owners have been encouraged to acquire quality standards mark from the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) to avoid unnecessary business impediments and expand market outreach for their goods.
The call was made by TBS officials who paid a visit to entrepreneurs and industrial owners in various parts of Liwale District, in the Lindi Region.
The TBS officials used the opportunity to provide necessary information on the need for entrepreneurs and industrial owners to acquire quality standards mark that will help them penetrate wide markets.
Speaking with journalists in Liwale District, the TBS Food Safety officer, Barnabas Jacob said they have been in the district to meet entrepreneurs and industrial owners as well as inspect business premises.
“We call upon all entrepreneurs to acquire TBS quality standards mark as a way to go beyond business impediments,” he said.
He said the entrepreneurs are required to have an introductory letter from the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) as an important requisite for initiating the process of getting the TBS quality standards mark commences.
Mr Jacob emphasised that the quality standard mark is being provided free of charge because all the costs are paid by the government.
He added that in the district they also conducted a preliminary inspection of the industries before being granted quality standards mark.
Mr Jacob mentioned some of the industries that were inspected as sunflower and cashew nut processing industries as well as maize milling machines and bakery making machines.
“We reached all the industrial owners and urged them to acquire TBS quality standards mark,” he said.
He also mentioned other activities that were implemented in the district including registration of food and cosmetic premises so that they meet legal requirements.
He said the registration of business premises give entrepreneurs assurance of conserving goods according to the requirements.
The registration of goods, food and cosmetic premises is a legal requirement for all entrepreneurs to meet.
