Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi yesterday appointed one Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), four district commissioners (DCs) and nine directors.
The massive reshuffle in the ministry of regional administration, local government and special departments comes hardly a week after he concluded his five-day tour of Pemba Island last week, accusing the local government authorities of underperformance.
“I am not satisfied with the performance of the town and district councils …revenue collections remain disappointingly low and the little that is collected ends up in the pockets of few dishonest public servants,” Dr Mwinyi fumed in his tour’s winding speech at Tibirinzi in Pemba last Friday.
A statement released by the Secretary of the Revolutionary Council and Chief Secretary, Engineer Zena Ahmed Said said Mr Ali Mohamed Mwinyi becomes the new North Pemba RAS, with Dr Hamad Omar Bakari and Khatib Juma Mjaja becoming Wete and Mkoani DCs, respectively, in Pemba.
President Mwinyi also picked Mgeni Khatib Hassan as Micheweni DC in Pemba and Hamad Seif Said as North B DC in Unguja.
Other appointed directors with their locations in brackets are Salmin Amour Abdallah (Zanzibar City); Mbaraka Said Hasuni (Magharibi A municipality); Khalifa Said Simai (Magharibi B Municipality – Unguja) and Yusuf Kaiza Makame (Mkoani Town Council in Pemba).
In the list also are Maulid Mwalimu Ali (Chake Chake Town Council, Pemba); Salum Muhammed Abubakar (Central District Council – Unguja); Ali Rashid Suluhu (South District Council – Unguja); Muhammad Khamis Muhamed (North A District Council – Unguja) and Abraham Ali Mukhtarr (North B District Council). All the appointments became effective yesterday, engineer Zena said.
