Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR House of Representatives yesterday passed a decree to congratulate President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s outstanding performance and the recent statement on a female presidential candidate in the 2025 general elections.
Special Seats Representative, Mwantatu Mbarak Khamis moved a private motion in the house, imploring her colleagues to pass the resolution.
Ms Mbarak, one of five members representing the house in the national assembly, described President Samia as a visionary, courageous and hardworking lady for whom “All Tanzanian women feel proud of.”
The legislator argued that for almost six months in office, President Samia has demonstrated high level of courage and integrity in leading Tanzania towards speedy social and economic development.
She made reference to sustenance of the late John Magufuli-initiated strategic projects—procurement of aircraft for Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), construction of Julius Nyerere Hydropower project and standard gauge railway—as testimony of Ms Samia’s fitness.
“Since she assumed power on March 19, 2021, President Samia has performed wonders; she has verified her ability to move Tanzania to greater heights,” the lawmaker told the house amid deafening applause.
Sustained construction of dispensaries, health centres and school dormitories for female students in almost all regions is additional credit to President Samia, the first female in the country’s most prestigious office.
The representative cited the 500m/- allocation to every constituency in Tanzania mainland, marketing of agricultural produce in neighbouring countries and the recent Royal Tour of the country’s tourism attractions to publicise the country globally, as other high scores for the president.
The president’s recent tours of the East African Community member states, the representative argued, “Have rejuvenated brotherhood and friendships with our neighbours, stimulating business activities amongst wananchi in the member countries and benefiting Tanzanians most.
“President Samia’s traits have proved beyond doubt that women have high leadership ability,” said the legislator, appreciating the president’s ability to work on the union challenges for the benefit of both sides of the union.
Members of the house seconded the motion, saying President Samia deserves their approval and support.
Minister of State in the First Vice-President’s Office, Dr Saada Mkuya Salum said President Samia has displayed high level of democracy and gender consciousness, citing the appointment of women and members of the opposition parties to various leadership posts in the government.
Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Minister, Tabia Maulid Mwita supported the move, saying she will be the first to support President Samia in her presidential bid in the 2025 general elections. “We are all thrilled by Mama Samia’s statement on female presidential candidature,” she said.
Pandani Representative, Professor Omar Fakih Hamad declared his personal trust and support to President Samia but doubted the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi’s (CCM) readiness to approve her.
“She (President Samia) has proved her leadership ability; I personally endorse her, but my worry is whether CCM will support her candidature,” charged the representative on ACT-Wazalendo ticket.
Speaking at the international Democracy Day celebrations on Wednesday, President Samia implored all women in the country to join forces to ensure their fellow woman assumes the presidency in the 2025 general elections.
She said her current presidency was an outcome of pure God’s will and by virtue of the country’s constitution.
