Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has continued to improve water services in all districts of Coast Region whereby to date availability of the precious liquid has reached an average of 78 percent.
Regional Commissioner Mr Aboubakar Kunenge told Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Regional Political Committee during its tour to inspect development projects in the region that, water distribution projects under Dar es Salaam Water and Sewarage Authority (DAWASA) has reached 86 percent while those under Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) has reached 70 per cent.
“The government has allocated as a total of 314bn/- has been allocated for implementation water projects in the region to end water woes… the budget will increase access to clean and safe water to the residents in the region,” he said.
Expounding, RC Kunenge said that the money will be utilized to boost water supply in both rural and urban areas in the region adding that his office has been making close supervision of the projects to ensure that they are completed on time.
While inspecting water project at Mwanambaya village in Mkuranga District, RUWASA Acting District Manager Ms Maria Malale told the visiting delegation that the project which was started in 2018 has been completed.
“We thank the government that this project which started in July, 2018 at the cost of 2.3bn/- now complete”, she said.
For his part CCM Regional Chairman Mr Ramadhan Maneno reminded the residents to take proper care of the infrastructures so that they can last long to avoid unnecessary costs to repair them. He also urged to pay water bills on time to sustain the services.
