Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday flew to New York, in the United States of America to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit.
This becomes President Samia’s first tour outside the African continent since she assumed the Presidential role on March 19 this year.
While in the US, President Samia, among other things, will address the UNGA on Thursday September 23, this year.
An official dispatch from the Director of Presidential Communications, Jaffar Haniu on Friday said that the Head of State will also attend conferences on climate change and food security.
Along with the Summit, President Samia will also attend a series of meetings to discuss climate change, food security and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
President Samia is also expected to meet with her counterparts from different countries as well as heads of various international organisations for the sake of cementing further their existing cooperation with Tanzania.
The President has already made official and state visits to six countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi and Zambia.
Equally, she has been holding talks with different top officials from different international organisations, including International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
She has also been receiving representatives from different countries who are conveying messages from their Heads of State.
During their talks, President Samia has always been seizing the opportunities to assure members of the international community of the conducive business and environment climate in the country.
The move, she said, goes hand in hand with enhancing the capacity of the country’s ports and airports, aimed at facilitating international business.
The country has already taken some initiatives that guarantee a better environment for business, a move that has resulted in an increase in the number of investments registered by the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC).
Available statistics from TIC show that the number of new projects registered in the country between April to June this year has increased by 68 per cent.
The data indicates that a total of 84 projects were registered during the reference period compared to 50 projects recorded in a similar quarter last year.
TIC Director, Dr Maduhu Kazi said recently that the increase in the number of projects registered and other achievements realised in 2020/21 are a result of the government’s move to address various investment challenges.
For example, during the year a total of 235 new projects were registered, which are expected to bring about a total investment of 3.3 billion US dollars and create 36, 849 new employments.
Dr Maduhu said 99 projects are in Dar es Salaam, 34 in Coast Region, 15 in Mwanza, 13 Dodoma, 12 Arusha, 11 Shinyanga, 9 Mara, 8 in Iringa and Tanga, 7 in Morogoro, 4 in Geita, 3 Lindi, 3 in Ruvuma, 2 in Kagera and other remaining regions have one project each.
Going forward, he said TIC has already set aside land for investment, where its database of land for the year 2020/21 has registered 273 areas of 159,720 hectors under government institutions and district council and 23 areas with the size of 9,240 hectors from individual Tanzanians who need joint ventures with foreign investors who are looking for land.
According to him, they have also focused on Industrial Parks, where they have already acquired enough land in Dar es Salaam Region, Coast, Mafinga (in Iringa), Morogoro and Mwanza.
