Africa-PressTanzania. TONY Blair Institute for Global Change has confirmed its keenness to cooperate with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, in improving the governance systems and building strong institutions.

Former UK Prime Minister and the institute’s patron, Mr Tony Blair made the confirmation here on Thursday, when he made a courtesy call to President Hussein Mwinyi at Vuga-based State House.

Mr Blair appreciated the eighth phase government’s performance, assuring Dr Mwinyi of his institute’s eagerness to work with the government towards system improvement and building strong public institutions.

President Mwinyi thanked the visiting former UK leader, expressing confidence on sustained cooperation between his administration and Blair’s institute.

He said the institute will have the responsibility of helping the government in overhauling the systems and ensuring that the government’s policies and plans are successfully implemented, with economic empowerment of the citizens and capacity building for public servants as the top priorities.

The president further cited the blue economy, which includes tourism, port, fishing, oil and natural gas as the key areas where the Blair Institute will focus its efforts on, noting that the institute’s experts will support the social sectors—education, water, road, electricity and job creation for the islanders.

“We are certain that through its (Tony Blair Institute) experience, we will succeed in our plans if we observe the experts’ guidance and directions,” President Mwinyi was quoted in a statement released by the presidential communication directorate late evening on Thursday.
