Africa-Press – Tanzania. DEPUTY Minister for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Deogratius Ndejembi has challenged fraud examiners to embrace technology in detecting and deterring fraudulent activities.
Mr Ndejembi observed that fraudsters have now devised sophisticated ways to execute crimes, noting that digital forensics should be important tools for the examiners.
“Anti-fraud professionals must know how to combat cyber fraud and how to use technology in fraud examinations and move with speed,” posed the Deputy Minister shortly before opening the 5th Annual Fraud Conference here yesterday.
According to Mr Ndejembi, the proliferation of technology in the modern-day workplace presents a world of opportunity for fraudsters – and a complex challenge for fraud examiners and investigators.
He urged the fraud examiners to become vigilant in deterring fraudulent incidences and help to institutionalise ethics in the organisations they work for.
“The government will closely work with the fraud examiners in helping them to remain relevant,” he assured.
Earlier, President of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Tanzania Chapter, Stella Cosmas appealed to the government to involve Anti-fraud professionals in their fight against graft.
“It is prudent to optimally utilise our expertise in deterring fraud,” she said.
According to Ms Cosmas, ACFE was currently facing a challenge of lack of recognition as a professional body.
The conference brought together more than 200 participants drawn from both the public and private sector, under the theme ‘The Fight Against Corruption and Embezzlement in Building a Nation with a Strong Economy’.
ACFE is an anti-fraud organisation and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education.
The CFEs possess unique expertise in preventing and detecting fraud, and are highly valued by organisations spanning all industries, sectors and sizes.
With nearly 90,000 members, the ACFE is reducing business fraud worldwide and inspiring public confidence in the integrity and objectivity within the profession.
