Africa-PressTanzania. THE government has allocated over 4.28bn/- to Rukwa’s Tanzania Rural and Urban Agency (Tarura) for upgrading of roads spanning to 2,300 kilometres for this fiscal year. So far the road agency has received 285.17m/- in the first three months of this financial year to September, which was equivalent to 6.66 per cent of the allocated fund in 2021/22.

The Rukwa Tarura Regional Coordinator, Eng Sethi Mwakyembe, said during the 39th meeting of Regional Road Board (RRB) on Tuesday that fund has already been allocated to respected districts.

At the end of September, Nr Mwakyembe said, Sumbawanga municipality received 86.63m/- equivalents to 6.49 of the total allocated fund of 1.302bn/-.

Sumbawanga District Council received 6.67 per cent or 55.712m/- against the allocated budgeted of 834.68m/-at the end of September.

Others on the list were Nkasi District Council pocketed 75.49m/- equivalents to 6.68 per cent of the allocated 1.13bn/- in this fiscal year and Kalambo District Council got 67.33m/- or 6.65 per cent of the allocated 1.012bn/-.

Rukwa Region Commissioner Joseph Mkirikiti told the RRB meeting, which he opened and chaired, that Tarura should finish rehabilitating all roads which were scheduled to be completed during last financial year—2020/2021.

“The timely execution of the road projects in rural areas would ease the movement of people and trades as well as farmers with easily transport their goods and produces,” the RC said.

Also Rukwa Tanroads Acting Regional Manager, Eng Jofrevas Ngowi told the RBB meeting that 13.63bn/- has been allocated to the road agency for rehabilitation of 87 bridges and roads spanning to 1,031 kilometres during the 2021/2022.

Rukwa region has road network serves by Tarura spanning to 2,304.26 kilometres with 75 bridges 2,498 small culvert, 53 drifts and 208 box culverts.

Equally, members of RRB meeting argued Tanroads and Tarura to ensure the road projects are implemented as per required standards and timely. That 340.37m/- of the received sum would be used to complete projects which were not finished in the budget of 2020/21.
