Africa-Press – Tanzania. POLICE in Rukwa region have apprehended Kennedy Fumpa (37) for allegedly marrying a standard three pupil aged eleven years old after paying a dowry of a domesticated pig valued 70,000/- .
The man who resides at Mabatini area in a small town of Namanyere in Nkasi District also pay a dowry of 330,000/- in cash.
The teenage school girl was studying at Kipundukala Primary School here in small town of Namanyere.
Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC) William Mwampaghale confirmed the apprehension of the suspect adding that he will soon be arraigned into court after preliminary investigations of his case is completed.
On his part the Mabatini area Chairman, Godfrey Kalungwizi confided with this paper that the area leadership had been alerted on the teen girl incorrigible absenteeism and acted swiftly.
He further went on to explain that efforts were made to find out what exactly transpired to the girl and, subsequently it was uncovered that her grandmother married her off to a 37 years old man.
The teen girl is living with her grandmother at Mabatini area being the only occupants in the house.
“We discovered that the man paid a dowry valued to 400,000/- that he gave the girl’s grandmother a domesticated pig worth 70,000/- and 330,000/- in cash” he confided.
Kipundukala Primary School Head Teacher, Josephat Laban admitted that the girl has dropped from school due to incorrigible absenteeism adding that her academic performance was poor.
