Africa-Press – Tanzania. PARTICIPANTS in peacekeeping and conflict resolutions from International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) have been urged to provide appropriate education on peace and conflict resolution in order to make the area safer.
Speaking during the training, Interpeace representative in Great Lakes Region, Mr Frank Kayitare, called on participants of the training to use the skills acquired from the training to educate the public on the importance of maintaining peace and conflict resolutions as crucial a way to attain development.
“You are going to be ambassadors of peace education and conflict resolution in societies, something that will make the countries we are coming from to be safe places for the development of our people,” Kayitare said.
Kayitare expressed gratitude to European Union (EU) for its support which facilitated the provision of the training, especially at the community level and highlighting the role of women participation in bringing peace to Africa.
He said they expect that the training will help the participants to be in the fore front in building a better society which is peaceful and free from conflicts and chaos.
“We have high expectations from our participants, what has been imparted will be beneficial not only at the society level, but also at the national level,” he said.
For his part, ICGLR Director for Gender, Women and Children, Flaviana Charles said the training was part of the ongoing training which has been provided to great lakes regions with the aim of helping to strengthen peace, gender and democracy in the respective countries.
“This training is just a continuation, we have been conducting the training and we will continue doing so because they are important for the welfare of our nations,” she said.
She said women and children are important groups which when used properly will be of great help in peace building and resolving conflicts in Africa.
“This training involves women and even youth who have great influence in our society in promoting peace and resolving conflicts,” Ms Charles said.
“The training is being conducted in the country for three days and will approve Rwanda and DR Congo which will be piloted following the training provided with the aim of resolving various conflicts in the society,” she said.
