Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitution and Legal Affairs Committee has advised the management of Moshi based Kilimanjaro International Leather Industries Company Limited (Klick) in Kilimanjaro region to ensure it produces quality products to attract local and foreign markets.
The advice was given over the weekend when members of the committee visited the factory located in Karanga area within the Karanga Prison area in Moshi Municipality.
Summing up the visit, the Chairperson of the Constitution and Legal Affairs Committee Ms Najma Giga, said the manufacturing of quality products which would attract many clients and make the business sustainable was the only miracle which would enable the investment recover the high costs which were used in the investment as well as accruing profits from the investment later on.
She continued to say that, the focus on finding reliable markets for the products produced by the factory was also very important, whereby she appealed to Tanzanians to be the first customers of the factory’s products under the concept of liking locally produced goods.
“It will not make sense for the government and its institutions to make such a large and costly investment and then the expected results are not achieved; we must ensure that success is achieved by creating the habits of purchasing products which are manufactured locally”, she added.
She commended the management of the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF) as well as that of the Prisons Department in the country for embarking on the investment which she said would provide more employment opportunities in line with the increase in government revenue.
“We are very much relieved to find out that PSSSF responded to the advice positively by establishing this huge investment that will benefit the nation and its citizens”, she said.
In her contribution, a member of the committee Ms Khadija Shaban (Keisha) expressed her hope that the investment would abide by the government’s guidelines which demand employment equity by considering people with disabilities.
Earlier, the PSSSF Director General Eng. Hosea Kashimba, said that the second phase of the mega investment was underway and that it had reached 90 percent of its implementation, whereby he said it was expected to be completed by November, this year.
