Africa-Press – Tanzania. PPRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has encouraged agents of players to begin searching international green pastures for the country’s women footballers as one way to uplift their status.
She said this recently at state house in Dar es Salaam when she hosted and awarded Twiga Stars players plots of land in Dodoma for claiming the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.
“These (women) players are performing well in various events; speak out for them in order to let them known outside the country. If you do that, they will easily be identified and picked by clubs from outside,” she said.
Also, the President noted that when other players trade outside the country, it helps to bring good mix in the team saying when they come back home, they help to add experience in the team just like the way Mbwana Samatta does.
“They say business is advertisement as such, speak for these players because if you do not, potential buyers will not know that we have skilled women footballers in the country,” the president said.
Earlier at the same event, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president Wallace Karia lauded the federation for putting extra weight on women football saying its fruits are now being enjoyed.
He added that procedures to create good environment for the women footballers when they retire from football are progressing well such that some of them will be directed to take up football leadership positions, coaching lessons as well as refereeing trainings.
Again, Karia narrated that despite the tangible achievements, they do experience budget setbacks especially when it comes to deploying national teams for international duels.
“We always cherish the good cooperation we get from government which accelerates our teams to perform well in different events and this is health for football development in the country,” Karia said.
Twiga Stars claimed the COSAFA title following a 1-0 triumph over Malawi in the hot finale of the competition hence their talented legs have enabled them to get plots of land in the capital city Dodoma.
This was however a copy and paste syndrome as their brothers Taifa Stars players were also awarded plots of land in the same region after they managed to play in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt ending a 38-year wait.
