Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to meet United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson for talks on bilateral relations between the two countries at the sidelines of the 26th United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
Government’s Chief Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa disclosed on Sunday that the Head of State would also hold talks with chairperson of the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Among other things, she is going to discuss how this organization could increase more funds in making the country adopt climate-smart agriculture in order to protect environment and get rid of effects of climate change.
Mr Msigwa stated this when giving his weekly briefings yesterday in Iringa region.
He said the participation of President Samia in the COP26 would bring benefits to Tanzania and is part of the country’s obligations since it has signed and ratified various international treaties on climate change including Kyoto protocol and Paris Convention.
During this global climate change conference the heads of state are going to agree on how each country would implement its duty on addressing climate change.
The industrialized nations have committed to allocate 100 billion dollars to help in addressing issues of climate change in different developing countries, including Tanzania.
“So, Tanzania is part of these developing countries to receive these funds because our leaders participate in these conferences and contribute and look at what opportunities our country could benefit from,” he said.
