Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE national Service economic wing – SUMA JKT has launched different agricultural equipment for strategic agriculture, which include motor vehicles and motorcycles amounting to 1.1bn/-.
The equipment will be used to implement various agricultural projects countrywide in efforts to meet its target of feeding the army by 100 per cent.
The equipment was launched by the Chief of National Service, Major General Rajabu Mabele at a colorful event held at SUMA JKT Skyzon in Dar es Salaam and attended by the National Service top leaders.
Major General Mabele, later laid a foundation stone at the army’s light factory located at SUMA JKT Skyzon in Dar es Salaam. He said that the 12.9 worth industry is at its last stage of completion. It is to be completed in December this year whereas production of LND lights will kick off early next year.
The modern equipment that was launched yesterday in order to carry out modern agriculture according to JKT Head of Administration, Brigadier General Hassan Mabena, include two tractors (717.6m/-), which have the capacity to cultivate 50 hectors per day.
Other equipment include seven motor vehicles valued at 220m/-, nine motorcycles (23.9m/-). According to Brig Gen Mabena, in total, SUMA-JKT has 48 motor vehicles and 111 motor cycles. All of them will be used by SUMA-JKT guard.
He also launched an equipment for cleaning and fumigation valued at 149.8m/-
Regarding the light factory, in 2018, SUMA JKT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Nigerian Company – Everlight Africa to construct the light factory, where as the actual construction kicked off in 2019.
“However we faced unprecedented delays during the construction due to Covid-19 pandemic, as many countries closed their borders including Nigeria,” said Major General Mabele, adding that the construction work was now at 90 per cent.
He said the remaining percent is just on assembling of turbines, whereas two experts from Nigeria are in the country to finalise installation.
In another development, for the first time, the army’s economic wing has introduced ambulance service, asking people who wish to have access to the service to visit the army offices as they will be provided at an affordable price.
The three high-tech ambulances that are among seven vehicles which were launched yesterday will help in rescuing people.
