Africa-Press – Tanzania. LAST year’s CRDB Taifa Cup edition finalists, Dar es Salaam beat Coast region 90 -65 in a thrilling encounter at Chinangali Park court in Dodoma on Friday night.
Dar es Salaam who lost the last year’s title to Mbeya, were a better side in the game right from the word go as they managed to command all the four quarters of the game. The winners went for the breather leading 41-35 and continued to command the two quarters as well.
The scores for the four quarters read 21-17, 20-18, 21-19 and 28-11 points. Nicas Buhatwa and Enrico Agustino were instrumental in the match as they netted 18 and 14 points respectively while Cornel Woiso led Coast Region’s onslaught after netting 14 points.
Dar es Salaam and Coast region are pooled in group B alongside Kigoma, Pemba and Shinyanga. Early during the opening day graced by the Minister of Arts, Culture and Sports, Innocent Bashungwa accompanied by the Deputy Speaker Tulia Ackson. In women’s category, hosts Dodoma thrashed Iringa by 93-31 points in a one-sided game.
The hosts proved to be superior to Iringa ladies and led the first quarter by 30-6 points. Dodoma led the second by 20-8 and went on to stamp 26-8 lead in the third quarter with 17 -9. Angel Allan and Dorice Anthony emerged the match’s top scorers with 32 points and 17 points respectively.
Dodoma and Iringa are pooled in group A which also comprises Mtwara and Unguja.
The second edition of the CRDB Bank Taifa Cup 2021 will see the winners for both categories men’s and women’s bagging 5m/- each while the runners up will collect 3m/-and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will pocket 500, 000/- .
