Africa-Press – Tanzania. ARUSHA Gymkhana Club (DGC) golfer Nuru Mollel overpowered his opponents to win this year’s TPC Golf Open for professional players at TPC course in Moshi, Kilimanjaro on Saturday.
Mollel defeated his closest challenger by three shots in the 36-hole tournament. Mollel was unstoppable when he grossed aggregate five-under 139 shots after the end of two rounds of the 36-hole showdown.
His closest challenger from Kili Golf club of Arusha, Isaac Wanyeche claimed the runner up prize after sinking two-under 142 strokes. One of finest professionals, Frank Mwinuka from Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf Club finished third with aggregate one- over 145 strokes.
Mollel said he was delighted to win the tournament though he admitted it was very tough. “I’m excited to take the top prize at TPC, everything worked very well to me this time around, but I had to calm nerves to win it, my opponents had also tried it hard,” he said.
Other pros who played were Elisante Lembris from Arusha who finished fourth with 146, Abdallah Yusufu of Lugalo was fifth after returning 148 shots, Brayson Nyenza also from Lugalo was 6th with 149 strokes and Hassan Kadio from Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club finished seventh with 152 strokes.
Frank Roman from Moshi Gymkhana Club carded 154 strokes to finish 8th, John Leonce was ninth with 156 strokes while the tenth position was taken by Salum Dilunga of DGC who penned 158 strokes.
Organised by Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) collaboration with TPC Club, the amateur category brought over 80 men and ladies. The tournament also serves as TGU order of merit battle which at the end will determine who deserves to be in the national team.
