Dr Gwajima explains why citizens should join NHIF scheme

Africa-Press – Tanzania. Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dr Dorothy Gwajima has called on Lake Zone residents to join the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to be able to access medical treatment.

She said that health insurance provides relief to the people; hence the access of getting different health services.

“It is high time for the people to accept the healthy policies of this country and join NHIF so as to ensure many people get the services,” Dr Gwajima said during the occasion to mark 50th anniversary since the establishment of the Bugando Medical Centre (BMC).

Earlier, Chairman of the BMC Board and Archbishop of Mwanza Catholic Archdiocese Renatus Nkwande, saluted the government’s support to the institution, noting that overall, the church was delighted by the improved services that the government was offering in various sectors.

He thanked the government for providing funds to facilitate a number of operations, including salaries for the staff at health facilities run jointly by the State and Bugando, rehabilitation of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Oxygen production unit.
