Africa-Press – Tanzania. ARDHI University (ARU) has received sponsorship from Belgium Government to conduct researches on how to address different challenges facing Dar es Salaam Region that was created by improper land planning.

The project named VLIR Flemish Inter-University Council will also facilitate 46 lecturers from the university pursuing PhD studies.

This was said over the weekend by the ARU Vice-Chancellor Prof Evaristo Liwa, when addressing the 15th graduation ceremony held at the university premises in Dar es Salaam.

At the graduation, 982 graduates were conferred with different degrees where 929 of them were awarded first degree, 45 Masters, 4 doctorate and four Diplomas.

He said ARU has participated in more than 103 researches intended to find solutions for different social issues including environment, land, settlement and infrastructure development.

He said the funded project will have small researches, adding that through it they will introduce the Centre for Sustainable Cities Studies.

He mentioned other project as Young People’s Climate Change Engagement in Tanzania (Y-ENGAGE)”.

“This project intends to increase knowledge and youth participation in issues of climate change and sponsored by Danish government through its organizations DANIDA, other project is Industrial Automation laboratories),” he said.

He said under the sponsorship of European Union (EU), the university has introduced a laboratory which will be used to teach students different modern systems of industrial productions.

“Because the laboratory is fully equipped with modern facilities, the graduates in computer systems will graduate with enough knowledge to enable them to go to work directly without having additional training. This will help them to get employment easily, because they are marketable,” he said

The Chairperson of the University Council, Ambassador Salome Sijaona, commended the management of the university under Professor Liwa for the proper planning and the good implementation of university development activities, adding that the move has helped the institution to have excellent performances.

“It is my sincere hope that you will maintain the speed you have and it is the government’s expectations that you will continue to implement the purposes, which made the establishment of this university properly,” she said

“The university did better despite the Covid-19 challenges. You maintain all government directives in the fight against this pandemic and continue with teaching, doing researchers and provide consultancy to our nation I sincere commend you for the well job done,” she said
