Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Deputy Minister of Constitution and Legal Affairs, Geofrey Pinda, has urged public servants to refrain from corrupt practices and to respect human rights in service delivery.
He said in line with that the civil servants should be the catalyst in strengthening human rights and the fight against corruption in the society.
The Deputy Minister said this during the Commemoration of National Day of Ethics and Human Rights which held at MnaziMmoja grounds in Dar es Salaam.
The commemoration was held with the slogan: ‘Adhere to ethics, combat corruption and respect human rights to achieve good governance’.
The Deputy Minister made the remarks on behalf of the retired National Assembly Speaker, Anne Makinda.
“If an employee engages in corruption practices or violates human rights it is a disgrace to the government and to society as a whole and he/she will not be fit to continue offeringservice in the public,” said the Deputy Minister.
He further called on the public not to accept offer orbribes as it is a legal offense. Also to be the first to report corruption acts.
This will help in the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy aimed at eradicating corruption in the country, he stated.
“The government has taken this as a fundamental base of human rights and that is why it has decided to make human rights part of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania as enshrined in the Article 12-24,” he said.
He further urged the citizens to be aware of their rights and responsibilities, citing the Article 25 -28 of the constitution.
“Let us support our president’s efforts in fighting these corrupt practices in the country,” he stressed.
Deputy Minister further advised the citizens toeffectivelly participate in the forthcoming 2022 Housing and Population Census which would be important in national development plans.
Also, he said while the world is still in the fight against covid-19 pandemic, Tanzanians should take all necessary precautions including get vaccinated, clean your hands often , wear Masks in Public.
On his remarks, Ilala District Commissioner, MrNg’wilabuzuLudigija said there are challenges in the ward Land Councils and called on the government to involved professionals experts and also to set these councils in a formal system to help solving difference cases in the community.
