Africa-Press – Tanzania. ILEMELA District Commissioner (DC), Mr Hassan Masala has urged graduates of the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) Mwanza Campus to use loans provided by his council to acquire investment capital that will help them to turn their knowledge into practice.
The DC made the call on Friday during the third graduation ceremony at the campus, noting that the six-phase government is committed to develop small, medium and large scale industries in to improve and add value to strategic crops.
He added that the government is also set to revive all dormant industries, a move that will assure job creation to graduates from higher learning institutions, as well as creating stable economy.
“The move therefore aimed at fighting poverty and setting conducive environment for graduates so that they can embark on self-employment,” he said.
He added: “This is possible especially when you will have strong courage to introduce businesses, companies or industries basing on education and skills you have acquired,” he said, adding that:
Since DIT produces best products in terms of human resource, mostly in leather technology, then the government would like to see the campus’ graduates contribute a lot in the fight against poverty and support industrialization agenda.
DIT Director General, Prof Preksedis Ndomba, commented that in an effort to meet the labor market and others (needs) in the society, the Institute has been creatively offering trainings in class, technology incubator as well as teaching factory in partnership with local industries and international universities that have gone far in leather technology.
He affirmed that, technical training continues to be enhanced at the Institute by implementing market-based curricula and increasing the budget for teaching and learning materials, so as to engage the students in solving both scientific and technical challenges facing DIT and the society at large.
“All about introduction of technology incubator is to enable students put their innovative products in markets in the name of promoting self-employment, mostly introduction of small industries,” he said, clarifying further that:
On teaching factory programmes that mostly aimed at students’ skill sharpening and production of competent experts, DIT has been partnering with other institutions and industries in and outside Tanzania, including Ethiopia Technical University, Jiaxing University and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to make it possible.
DIT Council Chairperson, Engineer Richard Masika, said that the Institute is implementing well President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s declaration she issued when was talking to Mwanza youth, early in June this year that:
The Campus will be an excellent center of leather technology and similar technologies in the East and middle African zone, and that many youth will benefit from the presence of such a center.
