Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has donated learning equipment worth 20,000 US dollars to the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA)’s teachers college at Beit al Raas campus. The donations include laptops and Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment that is expected to improve distance learning education.
“We recognize and value this important support for our institution,” said SUZA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohamed Makame Ussi who thanked KOICA for “timely and useful donation that will help students participate in video conferencing that enables distance learning.”
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of SUZA, Dr Ally Makame Ussi said the donation showed a strong relationship between the university, the Zanzibar and Korean government. “We look forward to more support in improving education,” said the deputy vice-chancellor.
In his message during the handing over ceremony held at Beit al Raas, the KOICA Country Director, Kyucheol Eo promised to strengthen collaboration with the Zanzibar government in various sectors, especially in education, to ensure that the government prepares well the young people in exploiting the ICT.
He said over the years KOICA has been partnering with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in development programs in line with KOICA programmes and Zanzibar Development Vision 2050 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The support to improve ICT opens the door for further cooperation between KOICA and SUZA, as we intend to expand more activities for cooperation. Having a modern computer lab will offer quality and relevant education and research to develop a knowledge-based society that can tackle challenges in the 21st century and beyond,” he said.
Mr Eo urged Tanzanians to use opportunities provided by KOICA in achieving development goals as the head of the teachers’ college computer lab Mr Suleiman Mussa Yussuf said the enhanced lab will improve training in ICT.
One of the SUZA’s students at the Beit al Raas campus, Ms Nasra Hassan Mrisho, said: “We are happy with the support of modern computer lab. We promise to maintain the equipment to last longer.”
