Speaker Job Ndugai resigns from role

Africa-Press – Tanzania. SPEAKER of the National Assembly Job Ndugai has stepped down from his role with immediate effect.

He becomes the first sitting Speaker to resign. Ndugai announced in a press statement he said his decision was based on the broader interest of the country, the government and the party.

Ndugai thanked all Members of Parliament (MPs) for their cooperation during his leadership.

A new Speaker will be elected on Jan. 30.
