Africa-Press – Tanzania. WILLIAM Lukuvi is not running to be the next National Assembly Speaker, President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced in Dodoma on Monday ending speculation that the Ismani MP will be replacing Job Ndugai who resigned last week.

The 66-year old politician who has been in the cabinet since 2010 was sent for retirement last week during a fresh cabinet reshuffle announced by Chief Secretary Hussein Kattanga at the State House in Dar es Salaam. It was rumored he will be running for the top job at the legislature.

Speaking at the State House in Dodoma, President Samia said Lukuvi will be helping her supervise other ministers. “He is not going to run for the Speaker’s post. I have a special assignment for him at the State House,” she said without giving more details.

Lukuvi was dropped from his position as Land Minister during the new cabinet reshuffle. He has been the Minister for Land, Housing and Human Settlement Development since January 2015.
