Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government will soon embark on tracking Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) graduates around the country.
The move seeks to gauge their abilities in their workplaces, according to Prof Adolf Mkenda, who is also the Minister of Education, Science and Technology.
According to Minister Mkenda, the government wishes to find out how VETA graduates were fairing in their endeavors, noting that the move is also aimed at improving vocational training at the center.
“We will conduct a random sampling as a way of evaluating all those who received vocational training at VETA,” explained the minister on the sidelines of a certificate awarding ceremony of apprentices of a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Prof Mkenda was categorical that the government intends on making VETA a force to reckon with as far as vocational training was concerned, urging employers to make the most of talents churned out of the institution.
“It really concerns us seeing employers outsourcing labor when VETA has all it takes in skills development,” said the Minister.
Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office in charge of Labor, Employment and Disabled Prof Joyce Ndalichako on her part challenged the graduates to capitalize on employment opportunities offered by the government.
“You’ll have no excuse of noting getting employed when you have such wealth of skills,” she said.
The minister further revealed that the Prime Minister’s Office will later this year announce 4,416 RPL opportunities for young men and women in the country.
Prof Ndalichako further challenged VETA to publicize the courses and training offered at the institution, noting that there was still high demand of skills development in Tanzania.
The authority certified 511 apprentices with Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment (RPLA), with another 2,517 recognized at other VETA centers around the country.
The education training authority is championing upgrading informal apprenticeship programme through RPLA followed by tailor made skills upgrading programmes and finally Certification.
RPL is the process to assess the skills and knowledge of a person regardless of how, when and where the learning occurred against prescribed standards for modular or full qualifications.
