Africa-Press – Tanzania. AIRTEL Tanzania festive season ‘Let Them Smile’, aimed at supporting the society living in a vulnerable environment, has now reached five regions over the weekend.
The campaign, which was launched late last year, over the weekend reached Mtwara, Lindi, Dodoma, Singida and Kigoma regions.
Let Them Smile, which is under the umbrella of Airtel Tunakujali, donated foodstuff to orphanages of Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) in Mtwara, Naweza in Lindi, Hombolo in Dodoma, Ititi in Singida and Brothers of Charity in Kigoma.
Speaking while handing over foodstuff to Brothers of Charity, Airtel Zonal Sales Manager Kigoma Gibson Fwankiye said that for a long time has been embarking on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aimed at showing love and care to children with special needs.
“By donating these foodstuffs to these orphanage centres, is a way of appreciating Tanzanians for their trust in us and continued use of our services and products.
“We commit to supporting our surrounding community as they mean a lot to us,” Mr Fwankiye said.
Kigoma’s Bangwe Ward Councillor Khamis Betese, the guest of honour at the handover event, called Airtel to continue to support the needs as they did at the Brothers of Charity centre.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate Airtel for the time you have spent with these children. It means a lot and the donation of these foodstuffs will give hope to us,” Mr Betese said.
The Brothers of Charity Orphanage Centre, Coordinator, Mr Jonas Kavunyi, said they have seen the number of children increase to upped the centre needs over time.
“These children spent all their entire time here. We have a lot of needs as we only depend on well-wishers like Airtel. We call appreciate you and call for continuous support to us,” Mr Kavunyi said.
