Africa-Press – Tanzania. PUNDITS have reacted positively to the choice of the Young Africans midfielder Yannick Bangala as the NBC Premier League’s Best Player insisting that he fully deserves the title.
Bangala was named the winner during the NBC-TFF Awards held in the city on Thursday night following a lucrative season he endured with the Jangwani street giants and played a pivotal role to help them win a set of three titles.
The versatile player was being deployed as center-back and sometimes as defensive midfielder depending on the preference of Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi who also won the Best Coach Award of the elapsed campaign.
“In my opinion, I have no doubt with him winning the Best Player of the Season Award because when playing, you could see that he is the quality player worth to be imported and traded in the Premier League,” said Ali Kamwe, one of football analysts at Azam Sports.
Aside from scooping the Best Player Award, Bangala also claimed the Best Midfielder Award beating his teammates Feisal Salum and Salum Abubakar ‘Sure Boy’ who were included in the category.
On his part, former Coastal Union striker Abdul Selemani also went home with a brace of awards in the name of Best Player of Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) and the competition’s top goal scorer after netting nine goals.
In the Serengeti Lite Women’s Premier League (SLWPL), the Best Player Award went to Fatma Issa of Simba Queens and her coach Sebastian Nkoma picked the Best Coach Award of the completed season.
The Best Defender Award went to Henock Inonga center-back for Simba who defeated Bakari Mwamnyeto and Juma Shaban both from Young Africans while Geita Gold’s striker George Mpole received his golden boot award after pumping 17 goals.
Mpole’s main challenger for the golden boot race Fiston Mayele was accorded with the Best Goal of the Season Award courtesy of his bicycle kick goal he netted versus Biashara United at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The Best Referee Award went to Ahmed Arajiga who officiated the ASFC final game between Yanga against Coastal Union while his colleague Frank Komba received the Best Assistant Referee Award.
Yanga’s goalie Djigui Diarra won the Best Goalkeeper Award as he had the most clean sheets 15 than any other shot-stopper during last season while Gelwa Yona for Simba Queens claimed Best Goalkeeper Award in SLWPL.
The Most Disciplined Team Award went to Tanzania Prisons whereas Alliance Girls were decorated with the Most Disciplined Team Award in SLWPL.
