Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) has been awarded certification of civil aviation safety training center by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) Managing Director Mr Hamza Johari said that the certification makes Tanzania among six African countries and 35 globally certified by ICAO to offer international level civil aviation safety trainings.
He said with the ICAO certification, CATC will now receive and training different aviation workers from Africa and all over the world, a move which will make Tanzania among countries offering aviation safety knowledge and earn more foreign money from offering such knowledge.
“This certification comes after long investments in training qualified Tanzanians to gain such knowledge and purchase of needed tools for training. ICAO started scrutinizing CATC from the February to July this year where it was satisfied that it qualified for certification,” Mr Johari said.
Mr Johari added that, Tanzania currently has 21 certified national aviation security instructors recognized by TCAA and nine others recognized by ICAO itself, whom are all local citizens.
He added that, every year TCAA spends 20 percent of its budget to train professionals to correspond with the changing technologies.
“The fund is also used to send aviation experts to other African countries for experience sharing. This is to assure that Tanzania meets international standards in this sector,” he said.
Other trainings offered by CATC includes Air Traffic management (ATM), Communication, Navigation Surveillance (CNS), Aeronautical Information Management (AIM), Airport Operation (AO), Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Train the Trainer
ICAO regional aviation security and facilitation officer from African regional officer in Nairobi Kenya, Mr Justus Nyunja handed the certificate, Code of ethics and a flag to TCAA.
He congratulated Tanzania for such a milestone in the aviation sector.
