AfricaPress-Tanzania: NATIONAL Beach Volleyball head coach Alfred Selengia has put Tanzania into limelight after becoming the first Tanzanian to enter African Volleyball Federation (CAVB ) instructors’ platform.

Selengia has earned CAVB court and beach volleyball coaches’ instructor post this week.

Patrick Mlowezi, the chairman of Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam on Thursday that Selengia’s appointment is honour for the country too.

” We TAVA are delighted and proud to be unveiled that Selengia has been appointed by CAVB to be the Continental level coaches’ Instructor, the achievement is a big honour for him individually and the country as this is a milestone for our game. ”

He has become the first Tanzanian to achieve that honour, and an appointment did not just come like miracle, it is due to his commitment, self-discipline and a hard work during his studies he attended at home and away.

“He performed well in all of them in his 2016- 2019 period,” he stressed.

Mlowezi said apart from his new continental assignment, TAVA will continue to help coaches who train the national seniors and youth teams.

” We bet on him to impart his skills to the local coaches for the development of the game in the country,” he added.

Adding, Mlowezi said TAVA wished him all the best in his new appointment and urged him to work harder until he qualifies to serve the International Volleyball F ederation (F IVB ) as its instructor in future.

He also appealed for local coaches to follow Selengia who already set good example so as to have many possible coaches of his magnitudes.

Selengia, who also serves as TAVA secretary general, has been the national beach volleyball head coach and helped the team to win African Z one V Beach Volleyball Championship in Entebbe, Uganda end of last year.

The tournament served as zonal Tokyo 2020 Olympic first qualifying round.

He had trained the team for the event that was due to start in Dar es Salaam from March 27th to 29th this year before it was called off due to coronavirus curfew and the organisers, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to postpone it to 2021.

Before dissolving a month-long camp in Dar, Selengia said his team was highly motivated and ready for the event against the opponents; South Africa, Ghana, Niger.
