JPM ANGUISHED AS 21 PERISH IN CLASH

AfricaPress-Tanzania: PRESIDENT John Magufuli has called upon all institutions and organs dealing with road safety such as the traffic police department to institute strict measures to prevent road accidents.

The Head of State made the call in Chato District in Geita Region on Wednesday, as part of a message of condolence after a grisly road accident at Kilimahewa Village in Mkuranga District, Coast Region on Wednesday morning.

Eighteen people died on the spot and 15 others were seriously injured after a head-on collision between a bus and a lorry at Kilimahewa Village in Mkuranga.

Three others died a few hours later while undergoing treatment, bringing the death toll to 21.

In his message of condolence to the bereaved families, President Magufuli directed drivers and passengers and pedestrians to exercise extra precautions and abide by traffic laws in order to help prevent road accidents that caused  deaths, injuries and loss of property.

According to a statement released by the Director of Presidential Communications, Mr Gerson Msigwa, Dr Magufuli directed traffic police officers to take concerted measures to curb road carnages.
