Africa-Press – Tanzania. CCM’s Secretary General, Daniel Chongolo has ordered speedy construction of Mwanza-Isaka Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) section with required standards.
He said the implementation of the project has to match with the value of the funds amounting to 3.06tri/- endorsed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the project.
Mr Chongolo issued the order after inspecting the project at Malampaka Ward during his first day of his visit of Simiyu Region which is aimed at inspecting development projects.
Initially, when he received the report on the SGR railway construction, the CCM’s Secretary General issued instructions to contractor CCECC – CRCC JV, who are the contractors of the project, to speed up construction.
Project Manager, Eng Machibya Masanja said the implementation of the project during the first phase has reached 96.3 per cent and they are in trials while they continue installing electricity along the line to run the electric trains.
“By June 8 this year we will have completed constructing all power substations,” said Eng Masanja.
He added that the second phase which is from Morogoro to Makutupora has reached 85 per cent.
For his part, Simiyu Regional Commissioner, David Kafulila informed Mr Chongolo that the contractor for the project, a Chinese engineering company (CCECC) has agreed to provide 1bn/- for renovation of the buildings.
