Africa-Press – Tanzania. AT least 25 suspects connected to Garlus Mwita’s death, have appeared
before the Arusha Resident Magistrate’s Court, charged with two counts of murder.
The suspects, who include ward councillors from Ngorongoro District and CCM Ngorongoro District Chairman in Arusha, Ndirango Senge Laizer were arraigned, faced with a premeditated murder and the killing of Garlus.
The police corporal’s life was, in early last month, snatched away by a poison-ous arrow aimed at him by some unknown individuals.
The officer met his fate while manning beacon mounting operation within the protected 1,500 square kilometers in the Loliondo Game Controlled Area (LGCA).
In her submissions, State Attorney Upendo Shemkole pleaded with the Court to add another count on the suspects.
The request was however met with a strong opposition from Defense
Counsel, Jeremia Mtobesya who lead a group of 15 lawyers standing for the accused.
Mr Mtobesya argued that it was only appropriate for the plaintiff to submit such a request during trial stage, adding that the court had no jurisdiction over the case.
“The case is still in the pre-trial proceeding, there-fore it is inappropriate to add any count at this stage,”he argued.
The lawyer further insisted on the need to transfer the matter to High Court.
Presided by Resident Magistrate Herieth Mhen-ga, the court session had to go for a brief recess to deliberate on the matter and review the charge sheet.
