President Samia appoints General Mkunda new CDF

Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed General Jacob Mkunda as new Chief of Defense Forces (CDF).

“President Samia has promoted Jacob John Mkunda to the rank of General and appointed him as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF),” a statement by the Directorate of Presidential Communication said on Wednesday.

General Mkunda replaces outgoing General Venance Mabeyo, who was appointed to the post in February, 2017, succeeding General Davis Mwamunyange.

Before his appointment, General Mkunda was the Chief of Operations and Training at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) headquarters.

The Commander-In-Chief of Armed Forces, President Samia has also appointed Lieutenant General Salum Haji Othman, the new Chief of Staff of the TPDF.

Prior to the new appointment, the Head of State promoted Othman from a major general rank to a lieutenant general.

Lieutenant General Othman was the Commissioner for Research and Military Development of the TPDF.

He replaces Lieutenant General Mathew Mkingule, who has been appointed ambassador.

According to the statement, the new appointees will be sworn in this afternoon at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
