Africa-Press – Tanzania. RESIDENTS of Kyerwa district, Kagera region, will from now access judicial services over land cases close to their area following the establishment of the District Land and Housing Tribunal in the district.
“For many years residents in Kyerwa district had to travel a long distance of 100 kms to Karagwe district for the cases involving land issues. The launching of the Kyerwa District Land and Housing Tribunal is a milestone,” remarked Ms Estha Mutafuta (43), a former Councilor who was overjoyed after being sworn in as a member of the newly- launched Tribunal.
On his part, Kyerwa District Commissioner Rashid Mwaimu hailed President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating enough funds for the construction of the district court buildings.
“Residents in Kyerwa district can now utilize the time and resources spent on traveling long distances to Karagwe district for development. We thank President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating enough funds for the construction of the district court buildings,” he said.
Kagera Regional Commissioner, Mr Albert Chalamila launched the Kyerwa District Land and Housing Tribunal on Monday, appealing to people to utilize the institution to minimize pending court cases.
Equally, he appealed to the members of the District Land and Housing Tribunal to be trusted by avoiding corruption and perform their duties according to their oath and the laid down regulations.
“It is my expectation that people will now settle issues involving land ownership out of court. Records indicate that there were many pending cases involving land disputes in the courts in Kagera region,” he said.
According to the 2022 National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) Kagera region had a population of 2,989,299. Kyerwa Council is among the eight councils in Kagera region. The other councils include Muleba, Biharamulo, Ngara, Bukoba DC, Karagwe, Missenyi and Bukoba MC.
