Africa-Press – Tanzania. FEMALE candidates outshined their male counterparts in 2022 Form VI results, according to the results released on Tuesday by the National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) in Zanzibar.

NECTA released the Advanced Level secondary leaving examinations results (ACSEE) saying the pass rate has slightly increased by 0.25 per cent from 99.62 per cent last year to 99.87 per cent this year, with government schools outperforming the private ones.

Speaking during the official release of the results for both the ACSEE and the teachers national examinations held in May this year, NECTA Acting Executive Secretary of NECTA, Mr Athu- mani Amasi, announced that females outshined male candidates.

“Overall, the general pass rate stands at 99.87 per cent this year, representing a 0.25 per cent increase compared to the 2021 performance, which stood at 99.62 percent,”

“The overall performance of female students this year has been better than boys by 0.08 per cent and that the overall performance in Divisions I, II, and III increased by 1.31 per cent,” he told journalists at the Zanzibar Ministry of Education and Vocational Training office.

He said a total of 1, 370 out of 95,826 candidates who registered to sit for the examinations were absent for various reasons, including illnesses.

Mr Amasi commended both students and teachers for good results of this year, adding that seven out of ten best schools are public (government) ones.

Flanked by his subordinate and other senior officers from NECTA, Mr Amasi said that a total of 83,877 students that is equivalent to 99.24 per cent passed with division I, II and III, adding that the number includes 37, 170 girls.

He said a total of 8,732 out of 9,586 private candidates passed their examinations.

Last year (2021) private candidates were 7,447 students. Elaborating, NECTA acting executive clarified that seven out the ten best students in science subjects are girls.

He named girls’ top performers in science subjects at the national level as Catherine Mwakasege, from St Mary’s Mazinde Juu School in Tanga Region

The list included Lucy Magashi, Minaele Mgonjwa, Norah Kidjout, Jennifer Chuwa, Pauline Mabamba and Rachel Moshy, all from the same institution.

The only boys in the list of the best ten students in science subjects were Muhewa Kamando, Kulwa Eliasi and Oscar Marabe all from Tabora Boys School in Tabora Region.

According to Mr Amasi, the best three private schools under the ‘Grade Point Average (GPA) in the list of top ten are Kemebos Secondary in Kagera Region, Ahmes Secondary of Coast Region and Nyaishozi Secondary of Kagera Region.

The public schools in the list of ten best schools included Kisimiri School of Arusha, Tabora Boys and Tabora Girls of Tabora Region, Dareda (Manyara), Mzumbe (Morogoro), Mkindi (Kilindi-Tanga), and Ziba (Tabora).

Mr Amasi said performance in General Studies, Geography, Basic Applied Mathematics and Computer Science dropped this year in comparison to last year.

“Students performed very well in Commerce and Kiswahili.

They also scored good marks in History, English Language, Arabic, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture,AdvancedMathematics,Economics, Accountancy and Food & Nutrition,” he said.

He informed journalists that the results for 21 students who fell sick and did not complete all the required examinations, are being withheld, and would be given another opportunity to re-sit.

He said the results for 15 students (including two private candidates) have been nullified after being found guilty of cheating.

Ten best male students in science subjects are Muhewa Charles, Kulwa Mbizo Elias, Oscar Marabe, Baraka Nyota, Don Mwakatoga, Pwali Njogela, and Zafrullah AbduRahman Mohamed, all from Tabora Boys.

Others are Albert Mashauri (Mzumbe, Morogoro), Philipo Ngelesi (Wari,Kilimanjaro), Kennedy Mcharo (Wari, Kili- manjaro).

The ten best students in Language and Arts are Hamza Ngosse (Songea Boys, Ruvuma), Charite Chonza (Zakia Meghji School, Geita), Zilabhela Kobwey (Kisimiri, Arusha), Mebo Mgaya (Ahmes, Coast), Gilead Gwasely (Tukuyu, Mbeya), Albert Boniphace (Kismiri, Arusha), Abdalla Mtawantyika (Kemebos, Kagera), Winfrida Sugoya (Ahmes, Coast), Hassan Buru- hani (Musoma, Mara), and Eric Mlay (Dareda, Manyara).
