Africa-Press – Tanzania. BUSINESS communities from six countries including the United State have confirmed their participation in the ‘Buyers and Sellers’ roundtable meeting organized by Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade).
Speaking exclusively to ‘Daily News’ at the ongoing Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) famously known as ‘Sabasaba’, Tantrade Public Affairs and Communication Officer, Mr David Langa said the meeting will bring together business communities and authorities to address the challenges facing the former.
The officer said the impetus for the event, which will be held in the Tanzania’s commercial capital on July 5 this year is to simplify business processes, since various authorities including Tantrade, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), will be at traders’ disposal to ensure all challenges are addressed amicably.
By June 29 this year the countries that had confirmed to participate in the events were Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), India, Pakistan, United State, Rwanda and Burundi.
“When you bring all stakeholders together in the roundtable meeting, traders’ enquiries can be attended in a single day and the government gets its deserved taxes,” the official said.
He added that the high-profile leaders who are will attend the event too.
Explaining on the 46th DITF, Mr Langa said a total of 21 countries with a total of 180 companies will take part in the international exhibitions.
He added that 3,200 local exhibitors will display their products and services at the trade fair.
Number of local exhibitors has increased from 2,700 recorded in the last year’s trade event.
Apart from the business community and stakeholders’ roundtable meeting, Tantrade is expected to run ‘Urithi Wetu’ programmes that will bring together pupils from five regions to visit various destinations including port and airport.
“The aim is to expose them to business environments. They will come from Lindi, Manyara, Unguja and Singida and Dodoma.
There will be 15 pupils from each region,” he added.
Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) was established by Parliament Act No. 4 of 2009 and commenced on September 3, 2010 (GN No 338).
Her establishment followed a repeal of the Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1973 that established the Board of Internal Trade (BIT) and the Act of Parliament No. 5 of 1978 that established the Board of External Trade (BET).
It is a statutory organ vested with regulatory, executive, advisory and consultative power of developing and promoting both internal and external trade in Tanzania.
The main functions of the body are to advise the Government on matters relating to the formulation, development, supervision and implementation of trade policies and strategies and to integrate and regulate the domestic market development.
