Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her major contribution to the growth of tourism. He highlighted Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania films as among the key tools that have helped promote the country and attract visitors from different nations.
Dr Abbasi explained that the award reflects Tanzania’s effective conservation of wildlife and the environment, which has made the country a leading global attraction. He also announced that Tanzania will host next year’s global tourism awards, an event that will bring major tourism organisations and stakeholders from around the world to the country.
He noted that the tourism sector has continued to grow rapidly since the decline of the COVID-19 pandemic, with tourist numbers increasing from 600,000 to over 2.1 million last year. This growth has been driven by joint efforts between the government and the private sector in promoting and improving the country’s attractions.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Ephraim Mafuru, thanked all tourism stakeholders for their support, which helped Tanzania secure this important award. He stated that the win demonstrates global recognition of the quality of Tanzania’s attractions, especially Serengeti National Park, which was named the World’s Best National Park.
Mafuru emphasised that the achievements reflect the significant work done by the Sixth Phase Government in improving tourism infrastructure, including road construction within protected areas and conservation of game reserves. He urged Tanzanians to participate actively in advancing tourism and conservation, stressing that the tourism sector contributes greatly to the national economy and continues to position Tanzania as a leading safari destination globally.
