Africa-Press – Tanzania. MINISTER for Defence and National Service, Dr Stergomena Tax has called upon traders in the country to produce quality products with international standards so that they can compete in the world market.

The minister assured the public that the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) will continue to protect the country’s borders to enable its people and the nation in general attain economic and social development.

Minister Tax made the remarks on Saturday at the ongoing exhibitions of the 46th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) at Mwalimu Nyerere grounds in Dar es Salaam.

The theme of this year’s exhibitions is “Tanzania, the Right Place for Trade and Investment.”

Besides taking part in the exhibitions, the army is celebrating 41 years of SUMA JKT, an economic wing of the National Service.

Ms Tax said that the quality of products is important not only to consumers but also in widening the market of the commodities.

“The government has made great efforts as President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been travelling around the world looking for business opportunities, thus it is upon us to ensure that we produce quality products that can be accepted in international mar- kets,” said Tax.

She said there are free trade zones in East Africa Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community and the African Union which provide market opportunities for quality prod- ucts, quantity and timely deliv- ery to meet the demands of international trade.

Ms Tax emphasized that SUMA JKT has industries that produce a wide range of products, including raw materials for the agricultural sector, processing construction prod- ucts, furniture and provide security services at the port and strengthening services in health sector and the use of technology in defense issues.

She explained in this year’s SUMA JKT budget, the fund for development project has increased and the main focus will be in placed on improving strategic infrastructure, especially in agriculture.

The minister further said in 2022/2023 main budget, a lot of emphasis has been placed on production to reduce the challenge of price hike in edible oil.

She said SUMA JKT is ready to work with other traders to produce quality products including food according to health requirements.
