Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>DAR ES SALAAM<\/b>: Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba has launched an eight-member committee tasked with assessing the Dr Salim Ahmed Salim Center for Foreign Relations (CFR) across various dimensions to pave the way for its transformation.<\/p>\n

The committee, chaired by Ambassador Khamis Kagasheki, will conduct a thorough assessment covering areas such as infrastructure, curriculum, and services.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the launching ceremony of the board at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, Mr. Makamba emphasized the institution\u2019s significant role in diplomacy regionally and globally, underscoring the need for transformation.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Minister highlighted the importance of scrutinizing the legal framework to enable the center to address global challenges and align with contemporary international political and diplomatic dynamics.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Khamis Suedi Kagasheki, the chairman of the committee, pledged to cooperate with other members to ensure that the center aligns with its goals.<\/p>\n

Established in 1978 through an agreement between the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT) and the Republic of Mozambique, the CFR has been incorporated into the Immunities and Privileges Act No. 5 (1986), granting it diplomatic status.<\/p>\n

The center\u2019s primary function is to promote development, awareness, and understanding of international relations issues at regional and international levels for practicing and emerging professionals and the general public. The CFR remains vigilant in learning from the international space and sharing innovative practices with all stakeholders involved in promoting international peace, understanding, security, and good relations.<\/p>\n
