Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>DAR ES SALAAM:<\/b> ITALIAN Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Marco Lombard has expressed his country\u2019s readiness to support and cooperate with Tanzania in advancing the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

He said Italy is ready to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan\u2019s ambition to improve agriculture, which is one of crucial sectors in developing the country\u2019s economies.<\/p>\n

The envoy was speaking during a special meeting that brought together agricultural investors from Italy and Tanzania.<\/p>\n

He said his country from planting stage to harvesting through technology in agriculture has made significance advancement worth emulation.<\/p>\n

He said Italian investors are prepared to collaborate with their counterparts in Tanzanians in the field of technology to ensure productive agriculture.<\/p>\n

Mr Lombardi said the research institute Export Planning, indicates a projected growth in Tanzania\u2019s agricultural machinery imports from around the world at an annual rate of 7.5 per cent over the next four years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis forecast suggests a favourable environment for bolstering trade ties between Italy and Tanzania,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he emphasised that investing in agricultural equipment is pivotal for fostering sustainable harvesting and farming practices.<\/p>\n

He underscored Italy\u2019s commitment to leveraging advanced agricultural facilities designed to address climate change challenges and mitigate risks for farmers.<\/p>\n

The meeting, which involved various stakeholders in agriculture in the country, was organised by the Italian Trade Agency in collaboration with FederUnacoma, the agricultural association based in Italy.<\/p>\n

The Director General of Reliance Group Ltd, Mr Steven Mlosi, echoed the sentiment, noting that despite Tanzania\u2019s vast arable land, agricultural production fails to reach its full potential due to inadequate utilisation of appropriate agricultural facilities.<\/p>\n

Mr Mlosi emphasised the necessity of partnering with Italy to address various challenges in the agriculture sector by enhancing food crop production for both domestic consumption and international markets.<\/p>\n

Business Analyst at the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) Desk Tanzania, Nofla Mwamanga, elaborated on the forthcoming international expo in Italy, which will bring together farmers and various local agriculture companies.<\/p>\n

Ms Mwamanga highlighted the diverse array of agricultural machinery, equipment, and technologies to be showcased at the expo, catering to the specific needs of Tanzanian agriculture.<\/p>\n

Notably, she emphasised the Idrotech exhibition, showcasing innovative irrigation technologies aimed at optimising water consumption and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Ms Mwamanga also announced that the Italian Trade Agency would reveal the participating companies in the expo, offering Tanzanian buyers access to cutting-edge agricultural solutions tailored to their requirements.<\/p>\n

Fabio Ricci, Deputy Director of FederUnacoma, expressed his belief that Italy\u2019s expertise in technology will assist Tanzania in developing the agricultural sector, as it has been the case with other countries.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, agriculture stakeholders expressed appreciation for the Italian agricultural technologies and emphasised on strong cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

They also called for more emphasis on training of smallholder farmers, who represent a large portion of the agricultural sector, employing over 70 per cent of Tanzanians.<\/p>\n

Investors from various companies involved in agriculture in Italy such as Masscar, Barbieri and Ocmis Irrigazione explained the best practices for efficient agriculture for the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

They also showcased various modern tools and technologies, including irrigation and seed planting machines, which are produced by their companies.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the meeting announced an opportunity for agricultural stakeholders in the country to attend international agricultural exhibitions in NBologna, Italy from November 6th to 10th in Bologna, with the aim of learning about modern farming and the opportunities available in the sector, including observing over 50,000 modern agricultural machines, including plant protection equipment.<\/p>\n
