Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will support Member States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in actions to increase more comprehensive migration programs and policies.<\/p>\n

The intention was expressed by the interim regional director of the IOM for Southern Africa, Mati Hashemee, at the opening of the Meeting of Ministers of Employment and Labor of SADC and Social Partners, stating that his organization will help to create integrated systems of confinement, documentation migration and labor migration inspection mechanisms.<\/p>\n

He stated that the containment of labor migration requires a commitment to identify the root causes, such as poverty, unemployment and lack of opportunities in countries of origin, hence the need to promote the economic development of the region, ensuring that the market of work is inclusive and decent for all.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed that the IOM will also provide assistance in the regulatory framework for labor migration and its optional capabilities in SADC, development of fair recruitment practices, promotion of social inclusion among immigrants and their host communities.<\/p>\n

Mati Hashemee said that Member States and partners must redouble efforts to improve legislation that guarantees decent working conditions and access to minimum social services in the Southern African region.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that Member States are at different levels in implementing migration policies. They have to solve problems of lack of resources in ministries, reinforce inter-institutional collaboration and market systems, as well as information in the workplace\u201d, she stated.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the idea is to guarantee the rights and well-being of immigrants, that they are respected and promoted, receive equal attention and the integrity of the labor market in the region, which is why they support labor ministers to facilitate migration, through bilateral agreements of migration supported by evidence.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the employment and labor sector plays a fundamental role in national development and regional integration in SADC, being crucial to solving the problem of poverty, inequalities and unemployment in the region, contributing to improving the quality of life.<\/p>\n
