{"id":107994,"date":"2024-04-02T19:02:51","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T19:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/cloves-production-soars-in-morogoro"},"modified":"2024-04-02T20:13:55","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T20:13:55","slug":"cloves-production-soars-in-morogoro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/cloves-production-soars-in-morogoro","title":{"rendered":"Cloves production soars in Morogoro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span><b>MOROGORO<\/b>: IN its bid to gain prominence in the spice industry on Mainland, Morogoro Region produced 2,000 tonnes of cloves valued at 36bn\/- last year, Morogoro Regional Administrative Secretary, Musa Ally Musa, said here yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the 2,000 tonnes, half of the volume of cloves produced in Zanzibar, were produced in Morogoro District Council alone.<\/p>\n<p>But it is evident small holder farmers are anxious to grow the crop in Morogoro Rural, Kilombero and Mvomero districts and in Mlimba District Council, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cloves production in Zanzibar witnessed a significant decline from 7,840.8 tonnes in 2021 to 4,734 tonnes in 2022, according to the Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur region is gifted with climatic conditions and fertile soil that are ideal for production of spices.<\/p>\n<p>The prerequisites are presenting a good opportunity for producing efficiently different spices while observing world-class standards,\u201d he told a meeting of stakeholders in the spice industry that ended here yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Tanzania is pushing hard to become one of the world big producers of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, lemon grass and pepper.<\/p>\n<p>Late last year, Tanga Region was put on the list of prospective clove producers on Mainland because the coastal region has the same climatic conditions like Zanzibar.<\/p>\n<p>Cloves thrive well in hilly places. Tanga Region has hilly places and in Zanzibar cloves are predominantly grown in hilly places of Pemba Islands and some parts of Tumbatu Island.<\/p>\n<p>Clove growing on Mainland Tanzania is being promoted by the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzanian (Sagcot) by coordinating and mobilising agri-finance of its partners in the private sector who have interest in the spice industry and horticultural crops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania.
