Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>KENYA: <\/b>THE government supports East African Country\u2019s initiatives to fast-track the smooth movement of people and goods across borders to promote the economy of the entire region and African continent.<\/p>\n

This was said by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Industry and Trade Dr Hashil Abdallah in Nairobi on Tuesday at the Border Management Conference on crossborder trade.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have agreed to continue improving the business environment to promote cross-border trade with the ultimate goal of stimulating the region\u2019s economic growth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Heads of State from Tanzania and Kenya underscored the importance of regional cooperation and economic diplomacy when they met in Dar es Salaam in July last year.<\/p>\n

They directed responsible ministers to meet regularly to discuss and address cross-border business challenges. The PS said the government is determined to open up the country through economic diplomacy whose main basis is the development of international businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cTanzania is the father and defender of peace and security in the EA region and Africa while caring for human rights issues and the dignity of its citizens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On her part, the Commissioner General of Immigration, Dr Anna Makakala said Tanzania uses modern technology to improve border management and cross-border trade efficiency.<\/p>\n

Dr Makakala said the systems are the 2018 Electronic Migration System, and Border Management System that enables data exchange and communication between border stations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough joint immigration teams and regional committees in border service centres, Tanzania and neighbouring countries partner for smooth movement of people and trade,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The conference included delegates from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, and South Africa.<\/p>\n
