Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>MOROGORO:<\/b> TANZANIA Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has laid out strategic plans to ensure that by the year 2025\/2026, at least 85 per cent of the road network is passable throughout all seasons.<\/p>\n

The Chief Executive Officer of TARURA, Engineer Victor Seff, made the remarks recently, in Morogoro while opening the TARURA Workers\u2019 Council meeting, to review the budget for the 2024\/2025 fiscal year, which will be presented by the Minister for Works Mr Innocent Bashungwa to the National Assembly next month.<\/p>\n

Eng Seff stated that the main objective of the strategy is to ensure the roads remain accessible in all seasons to stimulate economic growth and facilitate easy access to social and economic services.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, more than 100,000 kilometres of roads are earthen (unpaved) and these are the ones that face significant challenges, especially during rainy seasons,\u201d said Eng Seff.<\/p>\n

Eng Seff mentioned that the remaining 44 per cent of TARURA\u2019s roads consist of a good network, including slightly more than 3,200 kilometres of paved roads and over 41,000 kilometres of gravel roads, but the inadequate portion still causes the entire country to seem stagnant.<\/p>\n

The CEO of the agency emphasised that convening such a council is a step towards involving employees in contributing to the budget.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of these council meetings is to involve employees in the management of the institution and in improving their welfare to enable us to achieve our goals,\u201d said Eng Seff.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Tanzania Mines & Construction Workers Union (TAMICO), Paternus Rwechungura, advised TARURA, especially engineers and construction professionals, not to hesitate to join the builders\u2019 association to collaborate with their counterparts, including the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), in exchanging construction sector experiences.<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General further advised TARURA to continue inspecting and repairing rural and urban roads to ensure the provision of transportation services remains reliable at all times.<\/p>\n

On his part, the representative of the Labour Commissioner from the Office of the Prime Minister, Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities, Tulia Msemwa, advised council members to provide their opinions and suggestions on the budget to ensure that the agency achieves its goals, mission and vision.<\/p>\n

Msemwa, also a Senior Education Officer in the Labour Division of that office, said TARURA has set various plans, especially to improve road infrastructure, which will help address challenges and achieve efficient and productive goals set by the nation.<\/p>\n
