Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>DAR ES SALAAM: <\/b>TANZANIA Breweries Limited (TBL) has signed a Memorandum of Undertanding (MoU) with CRDB Bank Foundation to empower small-scale barley farmers to implement sustainable farming.<\/p>\n

The partnership, which is aligning with TBL\u2019s sustainable agriculture project, is part of its efforts to promote sustainable agriculture by empowering farmers across the country.<\/p>\n

TBL\u2019s Managing Director, Ms Michelle Kiplin said the collaboration aims to improve barley farming and promote sustainable farming to strengthen the economic well-being of small farmers in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe partnership is significant to boost the agriculture sector and enhance the economic welfare of smallholder farmers,\u201d said Ms Kiplin during the signing event held in Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n

Adding \u201cHaving reached this milestone today, we are confident that it will be the catalyst for similar activities across the country and we believe that this initiative will inspire others,\u201d The brewery company seeks to integrate financially empowered criteria into a smart agriculture framework, enabling farmers to adopt sustainable practices that promote environmental stewardship and reduce reliance on chemical inputs.<\/p>\n

The CRDB Bank Foundation\u2019s Managing Director, Ms Tully Esther Mwambapa said the Foundation is determined to empower women and youths in various sectors, including agriculture and has been strategising various approaches for the empowerment of youth SMEs.<\/p>\n

She said that the foundation\u2019s iMbeju programme targeted to boost the barley sector and enhance the economic welfare of small-holder farmers across Manyara, Karatu and Monduli districts in this year\u2019s farming season, particularly in Hai, Babati and Monduli districts. Ms Mwambapa added that until recently, the programme managed to reach out to at least 250,000 women and was able to provide a tune of 5bn\/-.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal is not only to boost barley production but also to equip farming communities with necessary tools and knowledge for sustainable agriculture and financial management,\u201d said Ms Mwambapa.<\/p>\n

Speaking on MoU terms, Ms Mwambapa stressed that the foundation through the programme has already started the implementation such as the provision of financial education to farmers where more than 300 farmers have been reached.<\/p>\n

Through this partnership, both TBL and CRDB Bank Foundation will be providing numerous services, including capacity-building programmes, seed capital, insurance coverage and supply of fertilisers and agrochemicals.<\/p>\n

Others are supporting cost-effective harvesting logistics where the beer manufacturer will be the buyer of the product.<\/p>\n
