Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Kilombero Sugar Company Limited has provided humanitarian assistance to the Kilombero District community, which has been severely impacted by the recent flooding events across the country following months of heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n

Statement issued by the companies Communications and Stakeholder Relations Manager, Victor Byemelwa on Thursday mentioned the contributed items as, six tonnes of essential food items, including beans, corn flour, and rice.<\/p>\n

The donation is set to assist over 500 households devastated by the floods.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the handover of the donations valued at 15m\/- Mr Byemelwa, stated that the aid is part of the company\u2019s Disaster Relief Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cKilombero Sugar is committed to the welfare of our community. Today\u2019s donation reflects our values of responsiveness and integrity. By supporting more than 500 families, we are addressing the immediate needs of those experiencing hardship,\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Mr Byemelwa urged other stakeholders to consolidate efforts with the government\u2019s initiative to aid communities affected by the recent floods, exacerbated by the El Nin\u0303o phenomenon. He emphasized the importance of collective action against climate change and reaffirmed Kilombero Sugar Company\u2019s dedication to environmental conservation.<\/p>\n

On his part, Dunstan Kyobya, Kilombero District Commissioner, acknowledged the timely nature of the support: \u201cOur community has been hard-hit by the ongoing rains, and Kilombero Sugar Company\u2019s proactive contribution is deeply appreciated.\u201d He also recognized the synergy between the government and the private sector in addressing critical issues and called for continued collaboration.<\/p>\n

Mr Kyobya disclosed that the number of affected households reaches 1,500, with Mlimba District Council particularly suffering, especially in areas such as Utengule and Masagati. He emphasized the urgency for aid as efforts are underway to restore infrastructure to its pre-disaster condition.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Hassan Abdalah, a local resident affected by the floods, shared his harrowing experience at the event as he noted that the flood destroyed everything, leaving his family without shelter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe assistance we received from the government and organizations like Kilombero Sugar is invaluable in alleviating our suffering during this difficult time,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
