Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>DAR ES SALAAM:<\/b> A TOTAL of 1,000 nurses in 10 regions have been lined up to benefit with free cooking gas cylinders from a local company.<\/p>\n

The Oryx Gas Tanzania Ltd (OGTL) has partnered with the Doris Mollel Foundation to support health workers with cooking gas in various regions. The gas cylinders will be provided purposely to encourage the use of clean cooking energy, and get rid of using charcoal and firewood.<\/p>\n

To start with, on Friday the company provided 50 gas cylinders to nurses at the Mwananyamala referral hospital in Dar es Salaam. OGTL Managing Director, Araman Benoit said the partnership aimed at increasing the use of clean energy among the Tanzanians.<\/p>\n

Mr Benoit said the company has so far donated gas cylinders and stoves to over 32,000 Tanzanians in the campaign to transform the country\u2019s population from using charcoal and firewood to clean cooking energy.<\/p>\n

He argued that the move was from the fact that clean cooking energy helps to address health and environmental effects brought about by the use of charcoal and firewood.<\/p>\n

On her part, the Executive Director of the Doris Mollel Foundation, Ms Doris Mollel, said the two-year partnership would offer cooking gas and cylinders to 1000 nurses mainly those working at marginalised places.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Doctor-incharge at the Mwananyamala hospital, Dr Zavery Benela, remarked that the hospital faces an increased patient of respiratory complications.<\/p>\n

Dr Benela informed that 30 per cent of 500 outpatients suffer from respiratory problems.<\/p>\n
