Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>ARUSHA:<\/b> BARRICK Gold Tanzania bagged five awards at the 2024 Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) exhibitions, testifying its commitments to safety and health of its workforce in the mining operations.<\/p>\n

Statistics show that accidents at workplaces consume between three and four per cent of the total national annual incomes.<\/p>\n

The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates the costs of workplace accidents and illnesses at almost 3 trillion dollars annually worldwide.<\/p>\n

Barrick Safety Coordinator, Hassan Kallegeya, said on Tuesday that its Bulyanhulu Gold Mine scooped the most coveted prize of the top overall winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe OSH awards demonstrate Barrick Gold dedications in observing safety and health of its workforce in its mining operations, \u201cSafety is a key component in Barrick\u2019s mining operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s award presentation event was graced by the Minister of State Prime Minister\u2019s Office (Labour, Employment, Youth and persons with disability) Deogratius Ndejembi.<\/p>\n

In addition to this major win, he said Bulyanhulu also scooped the best office administration, office support and other business support activities, and the Best OHS innovator winner in the mining sector.<\/p>\n

For its part, Barrick North Mara won the top accolade in the Most Caring for Workers with special needs.<\/p>\n

Last year, Barrick Gold through its mining companies grabbed six OSH awards and overall winner on health and workplace safety.<\/p>\n

These included the Best Risk Assessment Report in mining, Best OSH winner in the mining sector, Most Caring for Workers with Special Needs, Best OSH policy and Best Responsive OSH Action Plan.<\/p>\n

Last year, Barrick Gold through its mining companies grabbed six OSHA awards and overall winner on health and workplace safety.<\/p>\n

The company has a special programme for the safety of its employees and contractors, ensuring that everybody is going home healthy and safe.<\/p>\n

Additionally, statistics from International Labour Organisation (ILO) shows that every year, 2.6 million people die from work-related causes.<\/p>\n

Of this number, approximately 330,000 cases are due to fatal accidents. On top of all that in Barrick everyone is committed to doing all that one can to create a Zero Harm Workplace.<\/p>\n
