Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>ZANZIBAR:<\/b> President, Dr Hussein Mwinyi has stressed that the government still needs to invest more in water and electricity sectors to be in a better position to achieve its development goals.<\/p>\n

He said reliable availability of water and electricity will significantly facilitate high level of efficiency and maintenance in service delivery.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been receiving 110 megawatts of electricity from Tanzania mainland national grid, this is insufficient in meeting demands of economic and social services growth. We welcome investors from abroad to invest in these two crucial sectors,\u201d Dr Mwinyi said here yesterday.<\/p>\n

He delivered this statement at the Zanzibar State House, where he met and held talks with a visiting delegation from Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited (WAPCOS), an Indian consultancy service provider under the ownership of the government of India and administrative control of the Ministry of Jal Shakti state.<\/p>\n

Dr Mwinyi pointed out that the Zanzibar government is determined to find ways of having its own source of electricity, including partnering with any company that will be ready, beginning with feasibility study.<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the State House, Dr Mwinyi said that the study needs to have a detailed observation on production and distribution.<\/p>\n

Dr Mwinyi invited WAPCOS Limited into the business, saying that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is ready to cooperate.<\/p>\n

He insisted that Zanzibar and India have strong relations, with the latter supporting improvement of social services and other various fields of development, including education.<\/p>\n

The WAPCOS Limited CEO and Chairman, Rajni Kant Agrawal led the delegation and highlighted their mission to Zanzibar, which include familiarization and looking for opportunities.<\/p>\n

He said that the company has been providing consultation services, especially in electricity, water and infrastructure areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome the invitation as investors and we are ready to work with the Zanzibar government in overcoming challenges in water and power supply,\u201d the CEO said.<\/p>\n

He said in Tanzania, the Indian company was established in 1969, and is already working with authorities in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo on various proposed areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n
