Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA: <\/b>PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan\u2019s global efforts in raising funds amounting to 2.2 billion US dollars (about 5.7tri\/-) during the just-ended Global Clean Energy Summit have been greeted with accolades, with analysts arguing that it signifies Tanzania\u2019s strong political will towards the initiative.<\/p>\n

The amount in pledges, from both the public and private sectors, is a step toward minimising the adverse health effects associated with harmful cooking methods.<\/p>\n

The funding is part of a larger goal of raising 4 billion US dollars at the Global Clean Energy Summit in Paris, France, where President Dr Samia served as the Co-Chair.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the \u2018Daily News\u2019 on Tuesday this week in a telephone interview, pundits said President Samia\u2019s participation in mobilising contributions to address the adverse effects of harmful cooking methods has garnered Tanzania international recognition for its serious commitment to the global campaign.<\/p>\n

Dr Isaac Safari, an economist from Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), said President Samia\u2019s presence on the global stage signifies her unwavering determination in championing and mobilising funding from stakeholders. He noted that the pledge of approximately 5.7 tri\/- reflects Tanzania\u2019s commitment to making the clean cooking agenda a reality.<\/p>\n

Dr Safari emphasised that President Samia\u2019s involvement has spurred enthusiasm, encouraging stakeholders from both the private and public sectors worldwide to contribute to clean energy initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Samia\u2019s bold action in mobilising stakeholders to contribute funds towards clean cooking initiative has earned Tanzania international recognition, including raising further Tanzania\u2019s name on a global stage,\u201d said Dr Safari.<\/p>\n

He further pointed out that President Samia\u2019s actions align with her guiding principles of the 4Rs philosophy, adding that the fact that other nations support the country\u2019s governance principles it gives an impression that they not only support Tanzania in the clean cooking drive but also in other areas.<\/p>\n

However, Dr Safari cautioned that, for the clean cooking energy initiative to bear fruits, it is crucial to ensure that education reaches all individuals, especially those residing in rural areas, who comprise over 60 per cent of Tanzania\u2019s population. By 2030, it is envisioned that significant progress will have been made, with the goal of reaching 80 per cent of the country\u2019s population, as intended.<\/p>\n

Dr Paul Loisulie from the University of Dodoma (UDOM) echoed Dr Safari\u2019s sentiments, emphasising the importance of clean energy as a crucial solution for global environmental preservation.<\/p>\n

He expressed his belief that if the raised money is utilised appropriately, it will help address environmental pollution challenges, not only in Tanzania but worldwide.<\/p>\n

Executive Director of the Journalists\u2019 Environmental Association of Tanzania (JET), John Chikomo, supported Dr Samia\u2019s participation at the summit and her role as a Co-Chair, highlighting that it brings honour and privilege to Tanzania.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that actions by Dr Samia in mobilising funding signifies that Tanzania is not only making verbal commitments but also taking concrete actions to protect and safeguard environment. Mr Chikomo stated that President Samia\u2019s initiative sets an example for other African nations and the world at large, urging them to prioritise environmental conservation and actively implement measures to achieve it.<\/p>\n

He further noted that President Samia\u2019s efforts will bring immeasurable joy to many women across Africa, who are disproportionately affected by the harmful effects of unsafe and dirty cooking energies.<\/p>\n

Mr Chikomo called on various stakeholders within the country to support President Samia by ensuring appropriate technology and infrastructure are put in place to facilitate the implementation and distribution of the clean cooking agenda in rural areas.<\/p>\n

He also recommended widespread education through media channels and advocacy efforts. President Samia Suluhu Hassan was in Paris France for a global summit on clean cooking organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA). The meeting commenced on May 13 and conclude.<\/p>\n

Alongside other global leaders, globally recognised as a champion for clean cooking, President Samia co-convened and co-chaired the Clean Cooking Summit.<\/p>\n

Notable figures in attendance, include Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr St\u00f8re, Fatih Birol, Director-General of IEA, and Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) were also present.<\/p>\n
