Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>DODOMA:<\/b> THE government has allocated 40.5bn\/- to the Ministry of Home Affairs in the 2024\/2025 fiscal year budget for strengthening the ICT system, installation of modern Automated Biometric Information System (ABIS) and purchasing of police radios for long and short distance communications.<\/p>\n

Minister for Home Affairs, Eng Hamad Yussuf Masauni told Members of Parliament when tabling his ministry\u2019s budget estimates on Wednesday that the government is committed to transforming the police force and making sure it performs its duties professionally and proficiently.<\/p>\n

He said in implementing the recommendations of the Criminal Justice Commission, the ministry has installed the digital case file management information system, which is set to be connected with the criminal justice institutions.<\/p>\n

According to the minister by April, 2024 the Central Police Stations in 23 regions had already been connected to the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB). He said the 23 Central Police Stations are currently linked to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still connecting other Police Stations in other regions to the system,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Eng Masauni added that with local experts, who are also police officers, the ministry has managed to develop and install the Crime Early Warning and Early Response System, which helps to receive and analyse criminal information from the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ministry has spent only 101m\/- to develop and install the system, this is a good job done by our own police officers who are well trained and equipped for the job,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Minister added that 70m\/- was also spent on developing and installing the system for supervision of private security companies.<\/p>\n

He added that 92.2m\/- has been spent on improving and securing the Dodoma Central Police Station.<\/p>\n

He said all security systems have been installed by local experts within the Police Force.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese officers have helped in saving costs, which would have been spent on paying foreign experts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
